Lasting Fruit (Part 2): Living Letters
Sermon Introduction: Sunday we heard that we're living letters — read by people before they ever open a Bible. This week isn't about trying harder. It's about slowing down long enough to notice: God is writing something in you, and through you, right now. Let's walk through it together, one day at a time.
Day 1: The Story You Didn't Write
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:1–10
Reflection: Sunday we talked about a simple but weighty truth: God is the Author of your story, and Christ is the main character. Read through Ephesians 2 slowly today. Notice the phrase "But God" in verse 4 — two words that change everything. Before you could write a single sentence of your own story, God was already writing mercy into it. You didn't earn this chapter. You didn't qualify for it. It was grace, start to finish. Maybe you're in a chapter right now you never would have chosen — a diagnosis, a disappointment, a delay you didn't see coming. You don't have to understand the whole book to trust the Author. He sees every page and isn't surprised by yours. Today, instead of trying to rewrite your story yourself, hand God the pen again and remember: you are His workmanship, created for good works He prepared in advance.

You may never preach a sermon or write a book, but your life is still being read by the people around you — a coworker, your kids, the neighbor who's watching more than you realize. You are the pen God uses to write His story into someone else's life. That might look like a phone call today, a moment of patience you didn't have to offer, a kindness that costs you something small. It doesn't have to be dramatic. Paul says our sufficiency comes from God, not ourselves — which means you don't need to have it all together to be useful. You just need to be available.
Application Question: Who is one person this week who might need to "read" a page of God's kindness through your life?

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control — these aren't personality traits you build through willpower. They're fruit the Spirit produces when you walk closely with Him. Read verse 25 again: "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." Not just believe in the Spirit — walk with Him, moment by moment. Think about the last time you tried to love someone difficult in your own strength. How did that go? Now think about the times you asked the Spirit to fill you first. Today, before that hard conversation or that email, pause and ask the Spirit to be the ink. You don't have to write this one alone.

Reflection: God's promise through Ezekiel is beautiful: I will give you a new heart, I will put my Spirit within you, and I will cause you to walk in my ways. That's the paper Sunday's message talked about — human hearts, transformed from stone to flesh. Here's the honest part: people around you may never open a Bible, but they will watch your life. Before they ever hear a sermon, they're reading you — how you handle traffic, how you speak about people who aren't in the room, how you treat someone who can't do anything for you. That's not pressure to perform; it's an invitation to let God's real work in your heart genuinely show. You don't need to fake goodness. You need an honest, ongoing transformation that spills out naturally.

A pen with no ink pressed to paper never writes anything; it just sits there. That's the danger of a busy week — staying near God but never actually pressing in, never engaging the people right in front of you. Weight comes from time spent with the Lord. Contact comes from obeying what He's already told you. Motion comes from simply not giving up. You don't need a perfect week to leave a lasting impression — you need a willing one.
